Founded in 1889, Royal Birkdale is one of England's most storied links — and its Art Deco clubhouse, built in 1935 to resemble an ocean liner sailing through the dunes, is among the most recognizable in all of golf. It has hosted The Open Championship ten times (1954–2017), with champions including Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson and Jordan Spieth. Its fairways run through valleys between towering sand dunes, making it one of the fairest — yet most demanding — tests on the Open rota.
